Sustainable Infrastructure

TRC provides sustainability services for the planning, design, and construction of complex, resilient infrastructure projects. Serving public and private sector clients, TRC’s planners, engineers, and scientists work to improve sustainability outcomes for the environment, the economy, and the social well-being of local communities.

The Envision sustainability rating system is one example of TRC’s sustainable infrastructure services. Envision is a national standard for evaluating project performance, and it addresses a variety of attributes, including noise and light pollution, stormwater runoff, energy efficiency, material sourcing and recycling, ecosystem impacts, adaptation, and greenhouse gas emissions. With Envision-credentialed staff, TRC has the ability to provide sustainability assessments and training across multiple practices and project types, including roads, bridges, public transit, airports, railroads, pipelines, and power delivery facilities.

TRC also provides green infrastructure services to municipal, industrial, commercial and brownfield redevelopment clients.  Green infrastructure includes retention basins, bioswales, permeable pavers, rain gardens and other systems constructed to collect storm water and allow natural infiltration rather than collection and transfer to the local Publicly Owned Treatment Works. Benefits include mitigation of sewer overflows, reduction of unnecessary storm water treatment, flood prevention, and restoration of water quality in adjacent streams and waterbodies by making the urban environment less impervious to rainwater.
