Protection and Controls

TRC's experts are highly qualified in the area of utility protection and control. With extensive experience in design and commissioning of protection and control systems, TRC offers the range of knowledge necessary to carry out and complete the project.

TRC is experienced in protection and control design for both new and retrofit projects. When approaching retrofit projects TRC is very aware of the risks in working within the confines of an energized protection system, and reflects that knowledge at all levels of the job from conceptual design through final commissioning.

TRC’s protection and control design work covers projects of all types from distribution voltages through 500kV stations. Typically, the scope of work includes the complete design, from conceptual through detail. Many of these projects included outage planning, installation, and commissioning.

Protection and control design experience includes:

  • Conceptual Design
  • Application Analysis
  • Equipment Specification & Procurement
  • Design Documents & Calculations
  • Facility & Compliance Studies
  • Detailed Schematics
  • Detailed Wiring & Cable Design
  • Relay & Control Cabinet Design

  • Short Circuit Analysis & Modeling
  • Setting Calculations & Coordination
  • Outage & Fault Analysis
  • Testing & Commissioning
  • Substation Automation, Integration & Communications Including IEC-61850 Designs
  • RTU, DFR, SER Design & Programming
  • Smart Grid Applications
  • Cyber Security Applications
