National Health and Environmental Effects Research Laboratory

For more than 30 years, TRC has managed the operation and maintenance of this Lab in support of EPA’s research on the effects of air pollution on human health.

Client:
Environmental Protection Agency

Project Location:
North Carolina

Project Challenges

The National Health and Environmental Effects Research Laboratory conducts scientific research to help the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) understand the effects of hazardous pollutants on human health and the environment. The Lab’s research also helps the EPA to set ambient air quality standards. For over 30 years, TRC has managed the operation and maintenance of the Lab’s activities.

Solution

TRC supports all studies conducted at the Lab by providing technical management of experiments and visiting staff. TRC’s team of scientists, engineers, and technicians provide day-to-day operations, maintenance, and modification of the environmental chambers and support systems used to deliver to human test subjects precise quantities of gases, aerosols, or particulates to evaluate minute physiological changes in humans. TRC provides research results, advice, and leadership by advancing human-based scientifically sound research approaches to better understand the exposure, deposition, and biological impacts of pollutants directly in exposed people.

Benefits

TRC’s technological and scientific expertise, as well as flexibility has resulted in responsiveness to the EPA’s ever-changing environmental research interests and goals.
